In Japan, there’s a strong association of origami (paper folded) cranes with the story of a young girl, Sadako Sasaki, who died at a very young age due to exposure to atomic bombing radiation. As she was dying from leukemia, she was folding a thousand origami cranes in hopes of recovery from the disease. We’ve long had a belief that folding them helps with our health, and since Sadako’s story, origami cranes have become a symbol of peace, love, and hope. I folded this crane with the Palestinian keffiyeh pattern in solidarity.
